Genomes.io Launches Feature to Help Users Secure and Control Their DNA Data

Latest News

In response to growing concerns about privacy and the misuse of personal genetic data, Genomes.io has introduced a new feature allowing users to upload and store their DNA securely. The company’s encrypted vaults offer a safe place for individuals to manage their genetic information, and Genomes.io has set a bold goal: to reach 1 billion uploaded genomes over the next five years.

Incentives are being offered through GenomesDAO, where users can earn $GENOME tokens for sharing their data from popular services like 23andMe, MyHeritage, and Ancestry.com. These rewards are part of a broader effort to attract more users and build a vast, user-controlled genomic database.

The new DNA upload feature is free and offers a secure way for people to take charge of their genetic data. Genomes.io’s encryption technology ensures that uploaded data stays private, while also giving users access to various insights about their health, ancestry, and genetic traits.

“Our aim is to empower individuals to own and protect their DNA, while also helping them understand it in a safe and meaningful way,” said Aldo de Pape, CEO of Genomes.io. He emphasized that this initiative is about giving people control over their genetic information in a world where data is often misused.

Recent data breaches and the sale of genetic information by large companies have made many consumers wary about how their DNA is handled. News stories have exposed several cases where DNA testing companies failed to protect user data, or sold it without proper consent. Genomes.io hopes to change this by offering a user-owned system where privacy is prioritized, and individuals retain control over who can access their information.

To encourage participation, Genomes.io has launched a rewards program, allowing users to earn $GENOME tokens for uploading their DNA and exploring the platform’s features. The initiative, which runs through the end of 2024, offers a way for people to benefit from sharing their genetic data while maintaining control over it.

For those who already have genetic data from services like 23andMe, MyHeritage, or Ancestry.com, the process of uploading to Genomes.io is straightforward. Users can follow a simple guide to securely upload their DNA, which is then stored in an encrypted vault. From there, users can choose how and when to share their data, and what insights they’d like to explore.
