Large-scale sequencing initiatives are as much about data as they are about biology. Genomics England, established in 2013 to deliver the 100,000 Genomes Project, quickly outgrew its legacy storage environment as its ambitions expanded to millions of genomes. With petabytes of data already in hand and thousands of researchers requiring access, the challenge was clear, how to scale securely, cost-effectively, and without disruption.
Working with Nephos Technologies, the organization designed a hybrid architecture that integrates Quantum ActiveScale™ object storage, WekaIO distributed file systems, and Mellanox networking.
These technical advances enabled Genomics England not only to continue its population-scale sequencing goals but also to pivot rapidly to urgent pandemic research.
