Thermo Fisher Scientific is set to open a new bioanalytical lab in Gothenburg, Sweden, as part of an expansion of its global laboratory services. The 29,000-square-foot lab will be located in GoCo Health Innovation City, a growing life sciences hub. The facility aims to support pharmaceutical and biotech companies with advanced lab services to help speed up drug development.

Positioned next to AstraZeneca’s research site, the lab is designed to take advantage of GoCo’s collaborative environment. The goal is to bring together researchers and entrepreneurs from around the world to advance health innovation. The new lab will offer a range of services, from testing small and large molecules to working with biomarkers and new therapeutic approaches. It will also provide cutting-edge technologies like cell-based assays and molecular genomics to help companies move their drug development forward.

Leon Wyszkowski, president of Thermo Fisher’s analytical services, emphasized that the new facility is about providing fast and reliable data to pharmaceutical customers. “Being in Sweden will help us offer our clients the tools they need to make informed decisions about their drug development at every stage,” Wyszkowski said.

The lab is expected to open in late 2025 and will create up to 140 new jobs. It will feature state-of-the-art equipment for bioanalytical testing, supporting everything from early research to clinical trials.

GoCo Health Innovation City, is part of a broader effort to attract global companies and researchers to Sweden. Jacob Torell, CEO of Steptura, the real estate firm behind GoCo, welcomed Thermo Fisher’s expansion. He said the move highlights the area’s potential as a hub for health innovation.
